LEUVEN, Belgium – September 16, 2010 – Option (Euronext: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, notes that today the European Commission has opened an anti-subsidy investigation for imports of wireless wide area networking (WWAN) modems from China. Option had requested the investigation because of the severe injury caused by the sharp increase of obviously subsidized imports into the European market.
As announced in its First Half 2010 financial results Option had filed an anti-subsidy complaint with the European Commission based on Article 10 of the EU anti-subsidy legislation (Council Regulation 597/2009) for imports of subsidized wireless wide area networking (WWAN) modems.
Option continues to believe it is very important for Europe to foster a competitive environment where fair market practices and respect for relevant legislation protect the interests of all parties active in the market. The history of technology confirms that fair competition delivers the most innovation and growth. Unfair competition jeopardizes jobs, hurts end- users and developers and in the long run delays technological progress.
