BARCELONA, Spain – February 11 2008 – Option (Euronext: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, today announced a new generation embedded wireless module. The GTM382’s triple-band HSPA delivers data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps in the downlink and from 2 Mbps up to 5.76 Mbps in the uplink, creating opportunities for manufacturers of laptops and consumer electronics (OEMs) to develop products with faster uplink requirements such as video surveillance and file uploading. With upgradeable firmware, the GTM382 is the fastest embedded module available with its potential for future up-rating to 5.76 Mbps as networks upgrade.
Two leading OEM’s, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Samsung, are already developing new products, including the full range of Fujitsu Siemens Computer’s ESPRIMO Mobile notebooks, incorporating this new multimode PCI Express MiniCard, the GTM382.
The easy-to-integrate module allows OEMs to add broadband WAN connectivity as well as voice calling capability to consumer electronic devices, laptops and PDAs. Its support for HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS and GSM, ensures that devices incorporating the module can be offered for sale in markets worldwide.
The multi-mode module is designed for worldwide markets covering 800-850/1900/2100 bands that allows the broadband performance of devices incorporating the GTM382 to be optimised for the spectrum allocations found in certain parts of the Americas and Japan while retaining the ability to roam on 3G networks across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The module’s Type 3 Advanced Receiver Technology (ART) also combines the benefits of Receive Diversity and Receive Equalization across all three HSPA bands to make the most of the module’s HSDPA 7.2 capability while backward compatibility sustains optimum performance when the host device is connecting over a 3.6 or 1.8 Mbps HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE or GPRS network.
Optional circuit switched voice capability over either GSM or UMTS, Assisted- and Standalone GPS and flexible driver design provide OEMs with a versatile platform for creativity and innovation. The module has been rigorously tested for interoperability with all major infrastructure manufacturers and comes with comprehensive certification.
The GTM382 embedded module is expected to ship in commercial volumes in the third quarter of 2008.
