G101L from ECS, incorporating Option’s GTM 380, wins Mobile Broadband Notebook Competition at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
BARCELONA, Spain – February 13 2008 – Option (Euronext: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, congratulates Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) on its success in the GSM Association’s Mobile Broadband Notebook competition.
ECS’ G101L notebook was named as the Best Pre-Commercial Mobile Broadband Notebook in this year’s GSMA Mobile Broadband Notebook competition. The judges cited its feature-rich package, its compact and light form factor, and its affordable price as matching consumer needs. The notebook incorporates the GTM380 wireless embedded module from Option.
The GTM380, the wireless module built into the notebook, is a PCI Express MiniCard module designed by Option to be compatible with mobile operator infrastructure equipment capable of supporting HSDPA data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps in downlink as well as HSUPA data rates of up to 2 Mbps in uplink. This high performance module is the preferred solution for embedding HSUPA, HSDPA, 3G and EDGE connectivity technology into laptops and PDA devices.
The wireless module’s Type 3 Advanced Receiver Technology (ART) also combines the benefits of Receive Diversity and Receive Equalization to make the most of the module’s HSDPA 7.2 capability while backward compatibility sustains optimum performance when the host device is connecting over a 3.6 or 1.8 Mbps HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE or GPRS network.
The GSMA Mobile Broadband Notebook competition was created after market research conducted by the GSMA and Microsoft revealed a significant untapped mobile computing opportunity in the consumer market (roughly equivalent to potential sales of US$50 billion or 70 million devices). The competition was designed to stimulate the development of wireless notebook PCs for the mass market by encouraging OEMs and ODMs to introduce products with embedded HSPA mobile broadband connectivity to market at an MSRP of less than US$1,000. The high performance ECS G101L notebook delivers mobile connectivity at a consumer-friendly purchase price of less than US $800.
