LEUVEN, Belgium – August 30 2007 – Option N.V. (Euronext: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, today announced that it is supplying its GTM378 HSDPA embedded wireless module to Sony Corporation (TSE: SONY CORP, code 6758, NYSE: SNE), revealing the name behind the earlier announced design win. With access to Option’s technical expertise, technology leadership and superior embedded wireless broadband data solutions, Sony integrates Option’s wireless modules in the VAIO notebooks. Shipments of the wireless module to Sony have started in support of the commercial roll-out of the recently announced VAIO SZ and VAIO TZ notebooks series in Europe.
The Option GTM378 wireless module is specifically designed for IT manufacturers wishing to incorporate comprehensive broadband WWAN connectivity into notebooks. Incorporating tri-band HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and UMTS in the 2100, 1900 and 850 MHz bands and EDGE/GPRS in four bands (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), the GTM378 delivers broadband wireless internet connectivity to mobile devices across mobile networks in virtually every country on earth. Initially supplied with HSDPA 3.6, the GTM378 is field upgradeable when the network and the PC’s with the embedded wireless module are validated and configured for HSDPA 7.2. Backward compatibility ensures HSDPA connections at lower data rates of 1.8 Mbps. The performance of the GTM378 is further boosted by the inclusion of Advanced Receiver Technology (ART) enhancing the user connectivity experience within in-door environments and also in difficult or fringe coverage areas.
