>> WCM Diagnostic Tools

To verify network and/or product specific information which may be useful when troubleshooting the Globetrotter card you can use the WCM Diagnostic Tool.

Make sure the GlobeTrotter PC Card is inserted in your laptop PC Card slot and installed correctly.

Right click the WCM globe icon in the systray > Start diagnostic tool... > Run
(launch the Globetrotter WCM from the programs menu first if necessary)
or
start it from > Start > Programs > Globetrotter WCM GPRS > GPRS Data Card diagnostic tool

If the PIN code was not entered earlier and is not disabled you will be prompted to do so.

Running the Diagnostic Tool should provide you with the following information:

o COM Port: if this test fails make sure the card is installed correctly and try again

o Firmware: will tell you what firmware version is currently on your GlobeTrotter PC Card.

o PIN code status: will check the status of the SIM card. The possible results are:

  • READY: The PIN code has been given and accepted
  • SIM PIN: You need to insert the PIN code to enable the SIM card
  • ERROR: The program cannot read from the SIM. Try removing and inserting the SIM again

o Network Operator: This will check if the mobile (SIM) is registered on the network. The result should be the name of the operator (or his network code). If this is not the case it means that no network is reachable, this could be due to a poor Signal Strength or lack of coverage. Check if the antenna is plugged in correctly.
The first digit is 0 when the network is automatically selected and 1 when manually selected. Always make sure you are on Automatic when you are on your home network (if necessary reset the <Operator Selection> to Automatic (right click the WCM globe icon in the systray > Operator Selection > (make sure it is set to Automatic) > Select). Make sure you are on a Roaming partner network when visiting another country (if necessary switch to manual).

o Signal Strength: will check the signal strength. To get a reliable GPRS connection it should be at least be 10,0

o GSM network registration: will check if the card has been registered to a GSM network. Check the second number. You can have following cases:

  • 0 not registered
  • 1 registered, home network
  • 2 not registered, but currently searching a new operator to register to
  • 3 registration denied
  • 4 unknown
  • 5 registered, roaming

o GPRS network registration: same as above but for GPRS network

o GPRS Network attachment: it check if the attach to the GPRS network has been made. It can give as results:

  • 0 = detached
  • 1 = attached

o APN: It checks if the correct settings for the GPRS connection has been given. Please note that with a wrong APN it is not possible to make a connection.
The APN will only be seen in the Diagnostics window if a connection attempt has been made. If you run diagnostics before attempting a connection the APN field will be blank.
