How can I verify if my Snap-On and/or GSM cable are working correctly?

The easiest way to test your Snap-On and/or GSM cable is by use of a terminal program.
If you do not have a terminal program on your PALM device installed you can obtain a terminal program by sending a mailto: support@option.com

After installation of this terminal program make sure the Snap-On modem, GSM cable and GSM phone are correctly connected and the GSM phone is switched on.

Type: ate1 and tick <Enter>
Snap-On modem should respond with OK

Type: ati21 and tick <Enter>
Snap-On modem will return the firmware (GSM activation) code

Type: atd"number" and tick <Enter>
For example type:  atd003216204144  and tick <Enter>.
This will connect you to the Option International BBS (0032 is the country code for Belgium (0)16 is the area code).
If this number is not working in your country. Try a local data number that accepts GSM data calls (for example your ISP number).

To test the GSM cable make sure the GSM cable is attached to PC-card and the GSM-phone is connected and switched on:
(this test is not supported by the Panasonic GSM's and will return ERROR)
Type: at*gt and tick <Enter>
If the modem returns "kabel OK" it means there is no hardware problem with the cable
If the modem returns "kabel niet OK" it means the GSM cable is probably malfunctioning or you have
the wrong GSM activation installed for your GSM (firmware)

How can I verify if my Snap-On is correctly activated for my GSM phone?

In order to use your Snap-On modem with your GSM-phone, the modem needs to be activated for the type of GSM you are using.
This means that activation software (the firmware) must be installed on your Snap-On modem.

The easiest way to verify the version of the firmware on your Snap-On modem cable is by use of a terminal program.
If you do not have a terminal program on your PALM device installed you can obtain a terminal program by sending a mailto: support@option.com

After installation of this terminal program make sure the Snap-On modem, GSM cable
and GSM phone are correctly connected and the GSM phone is switched on.

Type: ate1 and tick <Enter>
Snap-On modem should respond with OK

Type: ati21 and tick <Enter>
Snap-On modem will return the firmware (GSM activation) code,
for example: EPLT1004N6ONAE (this is the latest firmware for Nokia 61xx-51xx)

(if you are uncertain about your GSM Kit version, check the Kit number on your GSM cable

Remark: do not upgrade or reflash your Snap-On if you have a working configuration.
