To uninstall your PC-Card under Windows 95/95b/98
go to:
<Start>
<Settings> <Control
Panel> <Modems>
highlight your modem and click <Remove>
For a complete cleanup and some more in depth troubleshooting,
proceed as follows:
(Do NOT proceed if you are unfamiliar
with the Windows structure!)
- When you make changes in certain files be sure to
make a backup of the edited files
- Go to:
<Start>
<Run> type: sysedit
and click <OK>
In CONFIG.SYS, if Card & Socket
Services (C&SS) are loading, rem out the corresponding
lines (these lines generally contain words like:
DEVICE=C:\ .cardsoft, cardwiz, cardware, CC, CS, ..)
In SYSTEM.INI, go to the section
[boot] and make sure (the default
Windows line) comm.drv=comm.drv is
listed, if this is not the case or an altered
*comm.drv* line is listed put a ";"
in front of this line and add the default comm.drv
line. In the section [386Enh] make
sure (the default Windows line)
device=*vcd is listed, if this is
not the case or an altered *vcd* line is listed put
a ";" in front
of this line and add the default vcd line.
When SYSEDIT is closed it will prompt
you to save the files, click 'YES'
To uninstall your Option International
modem go to:
<Start> <Settings>
<Control Panel> <Modems>
highlight your modem(s) and click <Remove>
<Start> <Settings>
<Control Panel> <System>
<Device Manager>, check if
a <modem> icon is listed, if
this is the case click on the + in front of the modem
icon and remove the OPTION line (if there is one listed).
Check under <PCMCIA Socket>
if the PCMCIA controller is correctly installed without
red cross or yellow exclamation mark (if the controller
seems to be incorrectly installed contact your notebook
manufacturer).
You will need to delete the OPTION driver from the
system registry (if it is still present after the
above steps).
<Start>
<Run> type: regedit
and click <OK>
In Regedit:
Double Click \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Double Click \Enum
Double Click \PCMCIA
You will see a folder or folders, if any
or more of these folders refer to the Option
International modem, highlight and delete
the specific entries.
Double Click \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Double Click \SYSTEM
Double Click \CurrentControlSet
Double Click \Services
Double Click \Class
Double Click \Modem
Installed modems will be shown as '0000'
and '0001' and '0002'
. Highlight these entries one by one and check (in
the right side of the window) if Option International
is listed, if this is the case delete the entree.
Exit the Registry Editor, in the menu <Registry>
<exit>
Shell to DOS.
<Start>
<Run> type: command
and click <OK>. This will bring
you to a DOS command prompt.
Type: cd\Windows\inf and press
<Enter>
Type:
del drvdata.bin and press <Enter>
del drvdidx.bin and press <Enter>
del mdmopt*.inf and press<Enter>
del ssopt*.inf and press <Enter>
del sopt44*.inf and press <Enter>
Type: CD\Windows\inf\other (this
folder is not always present)
Type: dir
delete all files that refer to Option International
Note: if you are uncertain about deleting a file
do not delete but rename.
Now review the oem*.inf files in
the inf and other
directory for applicability to OPTION,
Type: dir OEM*.inf
This may bring up a set of files ranging from oem0
to oem9 (or higher)
Using the DOS edit command you can
view the contents of each OEM? file.
Example: Type: edit oem0.inf
Once the file is opened, review it for any reference
or instructions to Option International.
Any files containing such references should be deleted.
When all OEM files pertaining to
Option International are removed
exit from DOS by typing EXIT
and press <Enter>.
From the Windows Desktop shut down the computer by
clicking on <Start> <Shut
down> and then <YES>.
Once the computer is off, remove ALL the PCMCIA adapters
from the PCMCIA socket(s) and go to: How
