Troubleshooting GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN under NT4.0, check the following:

Did Windows NT4.0 come pre-installed on your notebook?
If this is not the case, check with your notebook manufacturer what steps need to be taken to correctly install NT4.0 on your notebook. e.g. PC-Card controller, Setup CMOS upgrade, Sohttpacks ...
This compatibility- and configuration information can often be found on the notebook manufacturers website.

Did your notebook came pre-installed with a PC-card configuration program? e.g. CardWizard, CardSoft, ...
Many pre-installed NT notebooks come with a PC-card service program installed to help you configure PC-cards under NT. However, these programs do not support all PC-cards.
In order to uninstal  this PC-card configuration software from your notebook, go to:
<Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Add/Remove Programs> select the PC-card configuration program from the <install/uninstall> list and click the <Add/Remove> button. (for a back-up of this program contact your notebook manual or -manufacturer).

Does your notebook has an Infrared Port (IRDA)?
Most notebooks have an infrared port build-in. This port can take up some vital resources. Disabling this port could prevent a lot of configuration problems. On most notebooks this needs to be done in the System Setup. Check with your notebook manufacturer on how to disable the Infrared Port.

What steps should be taken before installing the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN card under NT4.0?
- If you use a dockingstation, undock your PC before Start Up.
- Remove all other PC-cards from the PCMCIA slots.
- Boot the PC <Undocked - without Network support>
- Go to <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Modems> and remove previous modem installations.
- Go to <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Ports> and remove all present COM-ports.
- Reboot without any PC-card inserted and go to <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Ports>.
Windows NT4.0 will add COM-ports, depending on the communication devices present on your PC,
e.g. COM1 for the PC's serial port (if this port was not disabled in the System SetUp).

Reboot your PC <Undocked - without Network support>, this time with the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN card inserted in the PCMCIA slot. Go to <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Ports>. You will find that an additional COM-port was added by Windows NT4.0. Check what port was added, we will later install the modem driver of the ANALOG/GSM part of the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN card on this port.

Insert the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN installation CD-ROM. Run Setup and follow the instructions on your screen:
D:\Capi\WinNT\Disk1\setup.exe (if the name of your CD-ROM drive is D:)
During this installation you will be prompted to configure Dial-Up Networking, you can do so or select to do it later.

To install the ANALOG/GSM driver, go to:
- <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Modems> <Add...>
- select <don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list>, click <next>
- under <Manufacturers> choose <OPTION>
- select <GSM-Ready 56K PC Card Modem>, click <next>
- select the COM-port that was added by NT4.0 for the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN card, click <next>
- click <Finish>  and reboot the PC
- during this installation you will be prompted to configure Dial-Up Networking, you can do so or select to do it later.

When the installation was done successfully you should see the following changes in your System:
- Three COM-ports added, one analog/GSM and two ISDN ports; <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel> <Ports>
- Two new icons in the Control Panel; <Option/Digi ISDN-Modems> and <Option/Digi ISDN-Ports>
under <Option/Digi ISDN-Modems> you will find a list of ISDN protocols that can be used to set up a connection
under <Option/Digi ISDN-Ports> you will find the two ISDN ports that were added to the system

The most common configuration problem under NT4.0 is a resource conflict involving IRQ's.
By default the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN card is installed on IRQ11. In case you encounter connection problems after a correct installation, changing the IRQ often solves the problem. Windows NT will not always report the resource conflict. IRQ10 or IRQ15 will often do the trick.
To change the IRQ-setting for the GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN, right click the <Network neighborhood> icon, got to <Properties> <Adapters>, click on the <GSM-Ready 56K/ISDN> adapter, click <Properties>, go to resources and change the IRQ-setting to a different value. Reboot so the settings can take effect.
