FOR RELEASE: MONDAY
13TH MAY 2002
LEUVEN, BELGIUM –Option (NASDAQ Europe: OPIN) today
announced that it began phase two of its planned roll-out
of the GlobeTrotter Triband GPRS/GSM PC card.
GlobeTrotter, designed for use by the mobile professional,
provides wireless Email and Internet access at speeds
averaging 56Kbps on GSM networks deploying the new GPRS
bearer service. For the first time wireless users are
able to take advantage of the increased communication
speed and make the mobile office a reality.
Phase One of the product roll-out focuses on the Network
operators, obtaining official product acceptance, thus
enabling GlobeTrotter to be promoted and sold directly
by the operator as part of an overall service package
to the corporate sector or as a stand alone product in
their wireless data portfolio.
“In early May we embarked upon the second phase
of our roll-out plan which will make GlobeTrotter available
through specialist IT and Telecom distribution channels
across the world,” said Douglas Ros, Vice President
Sales & Marketing for Option. “We are pleased
to see sell-through from shipments made just a week ago
has led to immediate repeat orders”.
Partnerships have already been formed on a global basis
for widespread buildup of GlobeTrotter distribution.
Globetrotter is unique as it is the only triband “world”
PC card device available today combining the GPRS service
for data (email, browsing, office synchronization, etc),
with the traditional GSM technology for making and receiving
phone calls.
Available in English, French, Dutch, German, Italian,
Spanish and Portuguese languages GlobeTrotter is compatible
with a wide range of Microsoft operating systems and third
party drivers already exist for MAC O/S and LINUX platforms.
