OPTION APPOINTS FREDERIC CONVENT
AS NEW CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER |
| |
FOR RELEASE: 7
OCTOBER 2002 Leuven,
BELGIUM - Option N.V. (NASDAQ Europe: OPIN), a leader
in wireless communications, has newly appointed Frederic
Convent to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
effective immediately. He is to be responsible for the
entire financial management of the publicly listed company.
Frederic Convent is replacing Johan De Lille, who is leaving
Option in order to pursue new business interests.
Frederic Convent said: "Now that Option has conducted
its strategic repositioning over the last years, it seems
important to give more visibility to its sustainable business
plan, supported by the entire Board of Directors. Through
the existing and additional alliances Option should be
able to deliver profitable growth, also in these challenging
times. My role is to allow the company to ensure its development
by reinforcing its fundamentals and providing adequate
financial resources".
Option has undergone a transformation over the last three
years from a manufacturer of niche products to a supplier
of mass-produced goods through the development and manufacture
of OEM products on the one hand and marketing its own
GlobeTrotter GPRS PC card on the other.
Jan Callewaert, President and CEO of Option added: "Frederic
Convent is a seasoned financial executive with excellent
experience in the areas of capital management, controlling
and investor relations with the global financial markets.
That skill set is a perfect fit for Option’s needs
as our repositioning is now completed. Frederic is familiar
with production businesses and has many years of valuable
experience with international investors. His knowledge
of the financial world and his experience in alliance
negotiations will enable us to derive maximum benefit
from the potential of our sound strategy.
Frederic Convent was most recently in a communication
agency where he provided investor relations advice to
companies among which Mobistar (MOB .BB) and where he
was responsible for the communication for Asahi Glass
(J.AHG) during its take-over bid on the remaining shares
of Glaverbel (GLA.BB). From September 1998 till early
2000, Frederic Convent (39) was Vice President, CFO and
Corporate Secretary of Xeikon (Nasdaq listed at that time)
where he was responsible for the accounting and financial
departments of the Belgian headquarters and the five foreign
subsidiaries of this manufacturer of digital printing
systems. As from May 1990 he served as Senior Investment
Manager, first during five years at GIMV (GIM .BB) followed
by three years at
a private holding company. Earlier in his career
he was a senior auditor with Coopers & Lybrand (currently
PWC). His formal education includes a law degree from
