How to setup a CSD Call to the Internet

4/02/2009

To setup a Circuit Switched Data call (CSD call), there are a few possibilities depending on the purpose of your CSD connection: connect to the internet or connect to another modem. In both cases, the connection needs to be made through the modem device of the Option product.

This article explains how you can setup a CSD call to the Internet

Many Option products do still have a modem device. In case you do not have a modem device (but only a network adapter is present), there is no easy possibility to setup a CSD call. To find out if you have a modem device, go to the Windows device manager (Control Panel  System  Device Manager), and check the tab “Modems”:

Setup a CSD call for connection to the Internet

To setup a CSD call for connection to the internet through an ISP (internet service provider), you will need a phone number to connect to, a username and password provided by the ISP.

The easiest way to setup this connection is to use the Windows Dialup application (in case you are using the Windows Operating System). This connection is setup in the same way as an internet connection using a PSTN landline (with Windows Dialup) was made manually in the past.

To configure this connection, go to Control Panel  Network Connections and select “create a new connection”.

Click “next when the first screen appears.
In the next screen, select “Connect to the internet” and click “next” as shown in the screenshot below:
Select “set up my connection manually” and click “next” as in the screen below:
Select “connect using a dialup modem” in the next screen:
In the next screen, select de modem of the Option device. In case you cannot find any Option modem device, make sure your device is correctly installed.
