This is possible with the Option GlobeSurfer®. The way you can enable this is by going to http://192.168.1.1. After you have successfully logged-in, you browse to 'connection settings' - 'Network connections' - click on the edit button (right column) of 'Wan cellular' - settings. There you can choose 'Network type'. Which can be UMTS only, GPRS (EDGE) only, etc. Then click 'apply' and the choice is permanent for future use.
